Churros with chocolate
Real classics in the cold season
They have plenty of calories, but they taste delicious: the churros that tempt you into pubs and market stalls in the colder months - served in proper style with a good cup of hot, preferably thick drinking chocolate.
Dipping in chocolate
The deep-fried dough sticks with the star-shaped cross-section are dipped in with relish. But of course, they also taste delicious on their own, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Or in the filled version with a vanilla or chocolate cream inside. Or with sauces made from different types of chocolate and caramel.
Delicious pastries made from choux pastry
The rich pastry made from choux pastry is typically Spanish and is of course also available on Mallorca. Sometimes in the form of a stick, sometimes shaped into a kind of curl, the mixture is fried in oil until golden brown - ready to eat! Churros are best eaten fresh and still warm. Then they are nice and crispy and a treat at almost any time of day.
Snack for in between meals
Some people swear by them for breakfast, others eat them as a deep-fried snack at lunchtime or in the afternoon . And, of course, they are also a good choice in the evening. They are also delicious after a celebration, a New Year's Eve party or on New Year's morning.
Tips on where to eat them
There are several restaurants on Mallorca that specialize in this high-calorie treat . For example, the Xurrería Rosaleda (C/. Costa de la Pols 12) in the old town, not far from Plaça Major, is particularly long-established. It is an institution, as it has been family-run for decades. The city of Palma has included Xurrería Rosaleda in its list of traditional stores .
Churros in the open air
If you are lucky enough to get one of the few seats outside, you can sit at one of the open-air tables. If you would like to take the churros away with you, that's no problem either. However, the pastries are particularly crispy immediately after frying.
Churrería La Artesana (C/. Arzobispo Aspargo 5) offers the specialty at the market hall in Palma's Pere Garau district. The famous café Ca'n Joan de S'Aigo (e.g. at C/. de Can Sanç, 10) and chocolaterías also offer churros.
Stalls at markets
Churro stalls such as those in Plaça d'Espanya in the center of Palma also exude the seductive aroma of the pastries - especially around Christmas time. There, the tasty pastries "selllike hot cakes".
And did you know how the Spanish express this in their language ? "Se vende como churros calientes!", they say: it sells like hot churros! Well then, bon appétit with this sweet temptation, which is also very popular in Latin America.
