€10,000 dog mess fines: Marratxí cracks down

Marratxí is handing out 4,000 free dog-cleaning kits as it steps up its drive to keep public spaces clear. Dog owners who ignore the rules can face a warning or fines from €500 to €10,000. The Marratxí Town Hall campaign also reminds owners to clear up faeces and clean urine with biodegradable products.

The rules cover places people regularly pass through, including pavements, building fronts, doorways and shop entrances. The Town Hall says the campaign pairs information with stronger enforcement of rules designed to protect shared spaces and animal welfare.

Free kits at local collection points

Each kit contains a dispenser for waste bags and a reusable bottle for carrying biodegradable urine-cleaning products. They will be available from Marratxí’s Citizen Attention Offices, Environment department and Local Police, as well as participating veterinary clinics.

Mayor Jaume Llompart said most pet owners already act responsibly. The council wants to make it easier for owners to meet their duties while keeping public areas cleaner.

Registration and microchip rules remain

The campaign also highlights the requirement for every dog to be listed on the municipal register. Registration is free and must be completed at the council where the animal normally lives within six months of its birth.

Dogs must also be identified with a microchip and permanently carry their identification. A simple ten-point guide will set out the main duties for dog owners.
