€1.3m backs open school yards across Balearics

Up to €1.3 million is being offered to keep school yards open after classes and on Saturdays across the Balearic Islands in the 2026-2027 school year. The funding is for childcare for children and teenagers, with the scheme published in Palma on Saturday, 12 September. It is intended to help families balance work and family life.

The Balearic Islands Ministry for Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care has launched the call under the Plan Corresponsables. The programme, known as patios abiertos — open school yards — also covers other childcare activities.

Care after lessons and on Saturdays

The activities are for children and teenagers aged from 3 to 16. Support can continue until the age of 21 for young people with a recognised disability or functional diversity.

The funding is aimed at extending care beyond the end of the school day and into Saturdays.

Councils and non-profits can apply

Town councils, local bodies and associations of councils can receive 75% of a project's cost. Family associations, social third-sector organisations and other non-profit bodies can receive the full amount.

The grant will be paid in advance and in full.
