RCD Mallorca women's football plans begin with two teams
RCD Mallorca has outlined plans to build its women’s football programme over successive seasons, starting with two teams this season. President Andy Kohlberg and business chief Alfonso Díaz discussed the project with Balearic Islands Government president Marga Prohens at the Consolat de Mar in Palma, Mallorca, on 17 August 2026.
The club expects to add further women’s teams in later seasons. Díaz said Prohens, who showed interest in the initiative, may visit the two sides due to play this season.
Rather than launch a senior women’s side immediately, RCD Mallorca intends to develop the programme through lower age groups. The sporting department chose a route designed to allow girls entering those categories to progress to a future first team.
At the meeting, officials also addressed the club’s environmental protection, sustainability and waste-management projects. Kohlberg and Díaz had met Prohens two days earlier at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix during Mallorca’s match against Real Valladolid.
Díaz said the club remained financially stable despite relegation and was seeking to increase both its activity and subscriber numbers. He said income from recent player sales would help cover the expected gap of almost €50 million in revenue between the first and second divisions, while supporting the club’s sustainability.
On forward Abdón Prats, Díaz said he remained an important figure at RCD Mallorca regardless of his playing time and described him as an example to others.
