Man arrested at Manacor courts over threats to former partner
Spain's National Police arrested a man at the courts in Manacor, Mallorca, on 19 August after he allegedly said he had spent ten days looking for his former partner with the intention of killing her. Police said he had demanded to speak to a judge and asked to be sent to prison.
Court security staff called the 091 emergency line after the man insisted on seeing a judge. Officers found that he was subject to a restraining order protecting his former partner and was continuing to make threats to kill her.
The Family and Women's Care Unit confirmed that the woman was in a safe place and well. Officers had contacted her two days earlier, on Sunday, under the VioGén protocol.
The suspect told officers that he had searched for the woman continuously for ten days. He also said he had entered the country house where she was living and had gone to relatives' homes in an attempt to find her.
Her relatives confirmed that he had visited them and left clothing and other belongings at their home. He was arrested on suspicion of making serious threats.
