Tourist theft arrests in Playa de Palma
Two men have been arrested over the alleged theft of a tourist’s mobile phone and wallet in Playa de Palma, Palma, Mallorca, the National Police said on 17 August. Officers recovered a high-end phone valued at about €800, along with €50 in cash, a bank card and personal documents.
The incident took place late on Thursday afternoon after two off-duty National Police officers spotted the men watching several tourists. The officers, who had encountered the pair during previous operations, followed them after becoming suspicious.
Police said one suspect allegedly removed the phone and wallet from a tourist’s shoulder bag before immediately passing them to the other man. One of the men then ran away and changed his clothes while attempting to avoid detection.
An officer pursued him and found him at a nearby supermarket, where he identified himself and stopped the suspect. The other officer intercepted the second man and told the victim what had happened.
During searches, officers found the phone, wallet, cash, bank card and documents. The tourist identified the recovered items as his property.
