Climate in Portocolom — Harbor Town on the Southeast Coast
Portocolom falls within the municipality of Felanitx and sits on one of the few fully intact natural harbors in Mallorca. The harbor opens to the south — meaning Mediterranean winds from the south and southeast arrive unobstructed. The climate is southeastern Mallorcan Mediterranean: sunny summers, wet autumn and winter months.
According to aggregator climate data, Portocolom receives around 507 mm of precipitation per year. That's somewhat above the AEMET figure for Palma (449 mm), but makes sense given the southeast-facing exposure to autumn Mediterranean low-pressure systems. The wettest month is November, with around 90 mm. Summers are markedly dry: in July, climate data shows only around 7 mm of rainfall — the harbor sits under clear skies.
Summers are warm: in July, daytime highs reach around 30°C, with a daily average of around 25°C. The sea breeze from the south keeps the bay cooler than the inland areas around Felanitx. Water temperature in July sits at around 25°C and climbs to around 27°C in August — the warmest stretch of the year for swimmers and divers.
In October the water remains pleasant at around 23°C, while the air has already begun to cool. Autumn brings more rain, but Portocolom sees fewer day-trippers at that time of year — which gives the place a different feel altogether. The weekly market (Tuesdays and Saturdays) runs year-round.
Winters are mild: in January the daily average sits at around 11–12°C. Frost on the coast is rare. Portocolom is inhabited year-round and has an active fishing community that keeps the town alive even in the off-season.
For more information about the town, see Portocolom Travel Guide. The Mallorca Climate Chart provides an island-wide comparison.
Note on data sources: Portocolom has no dedicated AEMET climate normal station. Monthly values are drawn from aggregator climate data (T3-Aggregator source) and should be treated as indicative figures.
