Best time to visit Mallorca: weather, beaches and hiking
The best time to visit Mallorca depends less on a perfect month than on what you plan to do on the island. For beach holidays, June to September are the most reliable choice. Hikers plan better for March to May or September to November. Anyone who wants to experience Palma, villages and markets without large crowds will find particularly good conditions in February for the almond blossom and in November. Families often travel most relaxed in May, June or September.
Compared with the Mediterranean, Mallorca is a very sunny destination: the island feels more settled and sunnier than the Côte d’Azur, but remains milder in winter than many regions on the Spanish mainland. At the same time, Mallorca is not a year-round bathing island. The difference between a sunny February day, a windy March in the Serra de Tramuntana near Sóller and a hot August on the beach at Camp de Mar is clear.
Brief recommendation by type of trip
Beach holidaymakers: June to September. From June the sea becomes pleasant, July and August are high summer, in September the water remains warm and the island becomes a little quieter again.
Hikers and cyclists: March to May as well as September to November. Temperatures are more moderate, the landscape is greener or autumnally clear, and tours in the mountains are more pleasant than in the summer heat. Especially in spring, it is worth taking a look at March and April.
Sightseeing without crowds: February and November. In February the almond blossom begins, many places feel local and quiet. In November, Palma, monasteries, markets and coastal towns are relaxed, even if the weather is more changeable. More details are offered by February and November.
Families: May to June or September. These months combine usable beach weather with less crowding than in the summer holidays. For small children, the temperatures are often more pleasant than in July and August.
The three travel seasons on Mallorca
High season: July and August. Mallorca is now hot, lively and expensive. The highs are around 30 °C, the sea reaches about 26 °C, beaches and popular places are full. Anyone looking for exactly that – long bathing days, warm evenings, full promenades – is right. Anyone who needs peace should book early or switch to less well-known places.
Shoulder season: May, June, September and October. This is the sweet spot for many travellers. In May and June, days become longer and warmer, in September the sea is still very warm, in October it becomes quieter again. For active holidays, couples and families, this period is particularly balanced.
Low season: November to April. The island is mild, quiet and much more local. Hotels and restaurants are not open everywhere, but in return the landscape, villages and Palma feel more relaxed. These months are suitable for hiking, culture, long stays and quiet weekends – less for classic beach holidays.
Climate values at a glance
The following overview helps with rough planning. For detailed questions on temperatures, rainy days and daylight, the climate table is also worthwhile; for beach holidays, the water temperature is particularly important.

Specific month choice: which month fits best?
If you want to choose only one month, September is the best compromise for many. The sea is still warmed up from summer, bathing days are very possible, and after the main holidays the island becomes noticeably more relaxed. For couples, families with small children and anyone who wants to combine beach with excursions, September is often ideal.
June is the best choice if you want summer but want to avoid the maximum heat and the fullest weeks. The days are long, the mood is already clearly summery, and many places are lively without being as densely crowded as in August.
May is suitable for active travellers, families before the holiday period and anyone who wants to combine warm days, blossom and excursions. The sea is still fresh, but for pool, beach walks and first bathing days the month often fits well.
October is interesting for travellers looking for peace, good food, markets and walks. Beach days are possible, but not guaranteed. For hiking, the month is often appealing, although after weather changes wind can also play a role; the overview of the Tramuntana helps with this.
February and November are not classic holiday months for sun worshippers, but excellent for Mallorca without a backdrop. In February the almond blossom beckons, in November the quiet side of the island: short routes, less traffic, good conditions for Palma, monasteries, coastal roads and small places.
