A day at the planetarium
For the hottest hours, the Observatori Astronòmic de Mallorca is a pleasant choice: air-conditioned rooms, interesting guided tours and even night tours in the evenings — that’s quite unique on Mallorca. In the morning you can combine a walk through Costitx’s quiet centre with views of archaeological finds, such as the bronze bulls; at sunset it’s worth looking up for some stargazing.
Tomorrow will remain sunny with about 34.7 °C, so similarly warm.

Climate in Costitx — Inland Heat at the Foot of the Tramuntana
Costitx is one of the smallest municipalities in the Mallorcan interior, sitting at 138 meters above sea level where the flat Plà de Mallorca meets the first foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. This position on the boundary between plain and mountains gives the town a climate that reflects the extremes of the inland — occasionally shaped by wind phenomena coming off the Tramuntana.
Summers in Costitx are warm. The land in the island's interior heats up more intensely than along the coast, since sea breezes lose much of their strength before reaching this far inland. July daytime highs come in at around 31°C according to aggregator climate data, with a daily average of around 26°C. Certain weather patterns can trigger föhn effects: when wind drops over the Tramuntana from the northwest, dry, warm downslope winds develop that can push temperatures up briefly. This isn't well documented statistically — but qualitatively it's a well-known characteristic of this zone.
Annual rainfall is estimated at around 470 mm — slightly above the AEMET figure for Palma (449 mm), a difference attributed to the proximity of the Tramuntana foothills, which deflect somewhat more precipitation in certain weather conditions. November is the wettest month at around 79 mm; July is the driest at around 9 mm.
Winters in Costitx are mild, but cooler than on the coast. The daily average in January sits at around 11°C. The slightly elevated position makes the village a little more exposed to overnight cold during cold-air intrusions than lower-lying spots on the Plà — frost is rare, but more likely here than on the coast.
The Mallorca Climate Chart provides a solid overview of seasonal patterns across the entire island. Anyone interested in the wind phenomena of the Serra will find background in the article on Tramuntana Wind Mallorca.
Note on data: Costitx has no dedicated AEMET climate normal station. Climate values are drawn from T3-Aggregator sources; the AEMET reference is station B228 Palma (1981–2010). Figures are indicative.
