Cita Previa at Hacienda: Booking an appointment with AEAT and ATIB in Mallorca

If you need to sort out anything tax-related in Spain – from the Certificado de Residencia Fiscal to a query about your tax return or picking up a notice – there's almost no way around the Cita Previa Hacienda. The Agencia Tributaria (AEAT) assigns personal appointments at its offices almost exclusively online, by phone or via the app; turning up without an appointment generally gets you nowhere. On Mallorca, a second authority comes into play: the ATIB, the Balearic tax agency, which is responsible among other things for the ITP (property transfer tax) and vehicle taxes. In this guide you'll learn how to get an appointment with both authorities, which offices exist on Mallorca, what deadlines apply for the 2026 Renta campaign, and which mistakes you should avoid.

Cita Previa Hacienda: Appointment with AEAT & ATIB Mallorca

Do you need support because Spanish or the Hacienda's thicket of forms is too much for you?

AEAT and ATIB: two authorities, two systems

Before you even book a Cita Previa, you should know which authority you need to deal with. The AEAT (Agencia Estatal de Administración Tributaria) is the national tax authority and is responsible for income tax (IRPF), VAT, customs, Modelo forms and most certificates such as the Certificado de Residencia Fiscal. The ATIB (Agència Tributària de les Illes Balears) is the Balearic regional authority and mainly handles the ITP/AJD on property purchases as well as, in many municipalities via administrative agreements, the vehicle tax (IVTM) and other local charges.

Comparison: AEAT (state taxes) and ATIB (Balearic taxes) — responsibilities and appointment booking on Mallorca

Both authorities have separate Cita Previa systems, separate phone numbers and separate offices. Anyone who accidentally books an appointment with the wrong authority loses valuable time – especially during peak periods like the Renta campaign in spring, when appointments fill up quickly.

Feature AEAT (national) ATIB (Balearic)
Responsibility IRPF, IVA, certificates, Modelo 303/130, customs ITP/AJD, IVTM (vehicle tax), local fees
Online appointment Yes, via sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es Appointments via the respective office
Phone (Palma) 91 333 5 333 (national, general) 971 176 688 (Servicios Centrales Palma)
Digital tools Sede Electrónica, AEAT app, Cl@ve Sede Electrónica ATIB (sede.atib.es)

Note: Don't confuse the AEAT with the Seguridad Social. For appointments relating to social security, the health insurance card or Vida Laboral, a separate system applies, which is explained in the guide Cita Previa Seguridad Social.

What do you actually need a Cita Previa for?

An in-person visit to an AEAT office is practically always tied to a previously booked appointment. According to the AEAT, the only exception is the pure submission of documents via the register (registro) – no Cita Previa is needed for that. For everything else, from certificates to queries about a tax assessment to help with your tax return, you need an appointment.

Typical reasons for a Cita Previa with the AEAT:

  • Applying for or collecting the Certificado de Residencia Fiscal
  • Queries about a notification received (with Código Seguro de Verificación/CSV)
  • Support with the Renta tax return (IRPF) within the income thresholds
  • Clarifying questions about Modelo 303, Modelo 130 or other Autónomo forms
  • Tax matters relating to customs and special taxes

Please note: According to the AEAT, these assistance services are expressly not intended to have the entire tax return prepared for you, but rather for advice and clarification. Anyone who needs regular support is often better served by a tax adviser or a Gestoría – more on this in our guide Tax adviser Spain Expat.

How to book your Cita Previa with the AEAT online

Appointments are arranged via the AEAT's Sede Electrónica at sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es/Sede/procedimientoini/GC29.shtml and, according to the official instructions, consist of four steps.

  1. Who is the appointment for? Choose "La cita es para mí" if you need the appointment yourself – for this, your NIF, first name and surname are sufficient, and no special identification system is required. If the appointment is for another person or a company, select "La cita es para otra persona o una empresa" and additionally provide the details of the accompanying person. For some cases (e.g. certain services for non-residents or customs matters), an appointment without an NIF is also possible.
  2. What do you need the appointment for? If you have received a notification from the AEAT, enter the 16-digit Código Seguro de Verificación (CSV) found at the bottom of the letter – the system will automatically find the matching service. Without a CSV, or if the matter isn't available this way, select "Otras gestiones" and manually choose the appropriate service from the category list.
  3. Choosing an appointment. Enter the province (e.g. Illes Balears) or your postcode. The system will show you available appointments – either in person at an office, by phone with a specialist, or as instant virtual assistance via chat. Depending on availability, an appointment may even be possible on the same day. Using the filter, you can narrow things down further by province, appointment type, morning/afternoon, as well as date and time.
  4. Confirmation. Finally, provide a phone number (foreign numbers are also accepted) and a valid email address. The AEAT will send the appointment details to this address, along with a link you can use later to change or cancel the appointment.
Step What you need Result
1. Who for NIF, name (or details of the person being represented) Identification possible without a certificate
2. What for CSV from the notification or select "Otras gestiones" The appropriate service is assigned
3. Choosing an appointment Province/postcode, preferred date Choice of in-person, telephone or immediate appointments
4. Confirmation Telephone number, email Appointment confirmation by email, manageable online

Appointment by phone or app

Anyone who prefers not to book online, or is out and about, can also use other channels. The AEAT offers several official access points for this purpose.

Channel Number/address Note
Telephone Cita (general) 91 333 5 333 Mon–Fri 9am–7pm, until 3pm in August, personal assistance
Información Tributaria Básica 91 554 87 70 For general basic tax questions

Videoasistencia acordada Can be booked via the Sede Electrónica Pre-arranged video call with digital assistance
Virtual assistance tools Herramientas de asistencia virtual (Sede Electrónica) Immediate help with IRPF, Censos, IAE, IVA, SII, and more

Note:The telephone Cita hotline 91 333 5 333 is the central number for personal assistance with appointment scheduling – it does not replace substantive tax advice, but helps you organise your appointment.

AEAT offices in Mallorca and the Balearic Islands

AEAT maintains several offices in Mallorca and the Balearic Islands with different responsibilities – from general administration to customs and special levies.

According to the AEAT, all the Palma offices listed are equipped with a lift and a barrier-free main entrance. Which office is responsible for your specific matter is determined automatically by the booking system based on your postcode – so you don't need to work it out yourself.

ATIB: the Balearic tax agency and its offices

The ATIB is organised independently of the AEAT and is responsible for taxes levied at regional level – above all the ITP/AJD on property purchases, as well as, in many municipalities via administrative agreements, the motor vehicle tax (IVTM). The central offices are located in Palma, complemented by a network of delegations and Recaudación offices in the municipalities.

Office Address Telephone Opening hours
Departamento Tributario (Gestión/Recaudación) C/ de Can Troncoso, 1, 07001 Palma 971 176 688 Mon–Fri, 9am–2pm
Departamento Tributario (Inspección) C/ Aragó, 29, 07005 Palma 971 177 381 Mon–Fri, 9am–2pm

Oficina Andratx C/ Maura, 21, 07150 Andratx 971 236 560

Note: The ATIB also maintains its own delegations and Recaudación offices in numerous other municipalities across the island. The best way to check which office is responsible for your matter is to look it up in advance via the ATIB's Sede Electrónica (sede.atib.es) or by calling the central number in Palma.

Appointments with the ATIB are usually arranged by phone directly with the relevant office or via the ATIB's Sede Electrónica. If you're buying a property and need to sort out the ITP, you'll find further background in the guide Taxes as a Resident as well as on private sales in the guide Buying & Selling Second-Hand.

2026 Renta Campaign: Deadlines for the Cita Previa

Hacienda appointments are especially sought after during the annual income tax campaign (Campaña de la Renta). According to current press reports, the following key dates apply for 2026:

Event Date 2026
Start of the Renta campaign 8 April
Cita for telephone assistance can be booked from 29 April
Cita for an in-person visit to the office can be booked from 29 May
end of the campaign 30 June

These dates are based on press reports from late March 2026; before booking, it's also worth checking the calendar on the AEAT's Sede Electrónica for the binding, officially confirmed dates.

Not everyone can make use of the AEAT's telephone or in-person support for the tax return. According to press reports, the authority limits access via, among other things, an income threshold: those with income from employment of up to a maximum of €80,000 annually can generally be entitled to this assistance. In more complex cases – for example, autónomos with several types of income – it's often worth consulting a gestoría anyway, see Buchhaltung Autónomo Spanien.

Note: Anyone who needs an appointment outside the Renta campaign – for example, for a certificate or a general query – is not affected by these seasonal deadlines and can book an appointment year-round via the regular Cita Previa booking system.

Without Cita Previa: What can also be done spontaneously?

Not every contact with the Hacienda necessarily requires a pre-booked appointment. According to the AEAT, in-person support at the offices is generally tied to a Cita Previa – the exception being the simple submission of documents via the Registro. So if you just want to submit a form or a piece of evidence, you can often do this without an appointment at reception.

For everything beyond that – consultations, certificates, queries – you definitely need an appointment. In parallel, the AEAT offers digital tools that let you resolve many matters entirely without an appointment and without visiting an office:

Digital tool What it's suitable for
Herramientas de asistencia virtual Immediate help with IRPF, Censos, IAE, IVA, SII, payments/instalment plans, customs
Consultas informáticas Technical questions on electronic identification, form submission
Videoasistencia acordada Pre-arranged video call with digital assistance

For many standard procedures – such as retrieving a certificate of tax residency – it's therefore worth first taking a look at the digital Sede before booking an in-person appointment. You can find details on this in the guide Certificado Residencia Fiscal.

Documents you should bring to the Cita Previa

Even though the specific documents required vary depending on the matter, the following documents are part of the basic set for almost every Hacienda appointment:

  • Valid ID card/passport as well as NIE or NIF
  • The notification received from the AEAT, including the CSV, if available
  • Evidence relating to your specific matter (e.g. proof of income, invoices, contracts)
  • If being represented: a written power of attorney as well as identification documents of the person being represented
  • Contact details (phone, email) so you can be reached for queries or appointment changes

Attention: Check before your appointment whether your matter actually falls under the AEAT or rather the ATIB, the Ayuntamiento or the Seguridad Social. For questions relating to registration at the town hall, the guide Empadronamiento Mallorca can help.

Most common mistakes with the Cita Previa

Anyone booking a Hacienda appointment for the first time can easily fall into one of the following traps:

  1. Wrong authority booked: An ITP matter raised with the AEAT instead of the ATIB – the appointment goes to waste.
  2. CSV overlooked: When a received notice's 16-digit code isn't entered, the system suggests the wrong service.
  3. Booking attempt too late during the Renta campaign: Anyone only looking for an in-person appointment shortly before 30 June often finds no free slots left.
  4. Missing power of attorney for representation: Without a written power of attorney, information is often refused for third parties.
  5. Expecting a complete tax return: The assistance appointments are for advice, not for the complete preparation of the return in every case.
  6. Email address entered incorrectly: Without a valid confirmation email, the appointment can later neither be changed nor cancelled.

What happens next?

After the Cita Previa, depending on your matter, you'll either receive a document directly (e.g. a certificate), an oral clarification of your question, or a note on further necessary steps. For tax assessments resulting from the appointment, you should keep a close eye on deadlines for objection or payment – if in doubt, a tax advisor can help with classification, see Steuerberater Spanien Expat.

Anyone who, as an Autónomo, regularly deals with the Hacienda, for example with Modelo 303 or Modelo 130, benefits from ongoing support rather than individual Cita Previa appointments – more on this in the guide Modelo 303 & 130.

Checklist: Cita Previa with Hacienda

  • Clarified whether the AEAT or ATIB is responsible
  • NIE/NIF and ID ready at hand
  • CSV of the notice noted down (if available)
  • Online booking via sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es prepared, or phone number 91 333 5 333 on hand
  • For representation: written power of attorney prepared
  • Email address and phone number correctly saved
  • For Renta matters: keep an eye on deadlines for telephone (from 29 April) and in-person Cita (from 29 May)
  • For more complex cases: consulting a tax advisor or Gestoría is advisable

Conclusion

The Cita Previa Hacienda is not some bureaucratic side track on Mallorca, but the central point of access to the AEAT – and, via its own system, to the ATIB. Anyone who knows which authority is responsible, uses the right channel (online, phone, app) and books in good time during the Renta campaign will save themselves waiting time and frustration. For anything beyond simple queries, it's worth getting support from a Gestoría or a German-speaking tax advisor – especially for more complex matters such as Autónomo taxes or certificates of tax residency.
