Description

Es Salt des Freu is a waterfall destination in the heart of a dense oak forest, close to the village of Orient in Mallorca.

Waterfalls from Colourful Rock

Es Salt des Freu is made up of several natural waterfalls that cascade from vivid, multicoloured rock into turquoise-emerald streams. The name translates loosely as "leap of joy" — and the spectacle truly comes into its own after heavy rainfall. Between October and April the torrent generally carries enough water to experience the falls at their best; during dry spells the waterfall can disappear entirely.

Getting There

Access follows a shaded forest path that calls for sure footing: streams are crossed by stepping over rocks, and there are short scrambling sections along the way. Roadside parking is available at kilometre marker 8.5 on the Bunyola–Orient road. Note that not all vehicle types will reach this parking spot without difficulty.

Atmosphere & Who It Suits

The forest path is largely shaded and offers a peaceful, nature-filled setting with views of the stream and woodland. Sheep are a familiar sight along the route. The destination makes for a great family outing — the walk is manageable even with young children — and lends itself perfectly to a picnic beside the water.
