Calo Des Homes Morts beach

Calo Des Homes Morts beach, Mallorca

Calo Des Homes Morts is a compact sandy beach on the coast of Portopetro. With a length of 35 m and a width of 25 m, the cove has manageable dimensions. It lies in a nature reserve, although its surroundings are clearly shaped by tourism. This combination gives the beach a distinctive character between protected coastal scenery and lively holiday activity.

Occupancy is high during the season. This is mainly due to guests from Club Méditerranée and other tourist facilities in the surrounding area. Calo Des Homes Morts is therefore not a secluded beach, but a small, intensively used coastal spot. A striking pine tree between the land and sea forms a distinctive natural feature at the edge of the cove.

Location and character

The beach belongs to the municipality of Portopetro and is located near Cala d’Or. The neighbouring Caló de sa Torre serves as a landmark for the journey. By car, follow the signs to this cove. The vehicle can be left between the private houses there; from that point, the route continues on foot along the coast and through part of the adjoining holiday complex to Calo Des Homes Morts.

Access is therefore less direct than at an urban beach with clear signposting. Its location within an area shaped by tourism explains why the cove can be very busy despite its small size. Club Méditerranée and other facilities use both the beach and the adjacent marine area for leisure activities.

The nature reserve provides the broader scenic setting. At the same time, Calo Des Homes Morts clearly shows the close proximity of the natural environment and holiday activity. The large pine tree at the transition between the coast and the water is the most striking feature of the landscape.

Water and beach

Calo Des Homes Morts is a sandy beach. Its compact area and high occupancy create a lively atmosphere during the season. The beach is therefore particularly suitable for swimmers who appreciate a small cove with basic facilities and feel comfortable on a well-frequented stretch of coast.

Buoys restrict access by vessels off the coast. On the left-hand side is a landing point for the excursion boats known as Golondrinas, which arrive from Portopetro. This also connects the cove with the tourist use of the coastal area around the harbour town.

Anchoring is possible off the beach on sandy ground interspersed with algae. In easterly winds, however, this section of coast is not considered advisable for anchoring. For swimmers, the sandy beach, manageable size and tourist surroundings are the main features of a visit.

Facilities and practical information

Facilities at Calo Des Homes Morts include a kiosk, lifeguard service, showers and toilets. Important practical amenities are therefore available directly on the beach. Especially on busy days, these facilities complement its character as an intensively used bathing cove.

Caló de sa Torre is the main landmark for reaching the beach. From there, the final section is covered on foot along the coast. As the route partly passes through the neighbouring holiday complex, the location differs from beaches situated directly beside a public road.

Good to know

Calo Des Homes Morts combines the small scale of a compact sandy cove with high seasonal occupancy and surroundings clearly shaped by tourism. A kiosk, lifeguard service, showers and toilets make a visit practical, while the nature reserve and striking pine tree define the scenic setting.

Those who prioritise peace and seclusion are unlikely to find the right atmosphere here during the season. For swimmers looking for a compact sandy beach with facilities and a lively holiday atmosphere, however, the cove is an interesting option on the Portopetro coast.
