Mallorca Acampaesport: 1,650 take to the water
Water sports, planet-themed treasure hunts and competitions have filled the summer for 1,650 young people at Acampaesport in Colònia de Sant Pere, Artà, Mallorca. The ninth edition of the Consell de Mallorca programme put the total solar eclipse at the centre of its activities. On Wednesday, the island council’s environment, rural affairs and sports councillor, Pedro Bestard, joined the participants for a range of water sports.
The camp received 4,420 applications from families and runs 36 hours of activities each week, according to the Consell de Mallorca. Bestard said half of the places are offered to teenagers up to the age of 17, a group with few options on the island.
The council is considering future sites to expand the activity, including the Casa de Colonias de Binicanella in Bunyola.
The programme has also continued its anthropometric study of young people born between 2012 and 2018. Started in 2024, the study is intended to build a clearer picture of the physical fitness of Mallorca’s school population and help the Consell’s Physical Activity and Health Unit shape nutrition and information programmes.
