Mallorca tech day: AI for hotels and waste plants
Nearly 20 digital tools go on show in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday: around 200 professionals gather at the Port Center for Telefónica’s Innovation Day. They see how the technology could help with work ranging from hotel support to waste-plant planning.
Telefónica says the displays cover tourism, industry, mobility, education, health and security. They include artificial intelligence (AI), internet-connected devices and 5G. A discussion also tackles how businesses and public bodies can share data while protecting their systems from cyberattacks.
Traffic and sea data for trip planning
The Balearic government wants to link data held by public bodies, businesses and universities. Its innovation director, Sebastián González, points to digital twins — computer models developed on the islands. One uses traffic and sea-condition data to help plan trips and excursions.
AI in hotels and waste plants
Hotel chain Meliá has expanded its technology partnership with Telefónica. Its system serves more than 250 hotels in 40 countries, and it already uses AI to handle technical problems more quickly and spot them sooner.
For Tirme, which operates waste-treatment plants on Mallorca, the focus is on what might happen next. Its information systems director, Alberto Pozuelo, says data models could predict how much waste will arrive at a plant — or which piece of equipment might fail.
