Palma driver flees crash with triple alcohol limit
A 31-year-old driver in Palma, Mallorca, drove on after smashing his car into a roundabout in the early hours of Saturday, leaving one wheel completely wrecked. A Policía Local de Palma patrol saw the crash and stopped him after he left the roundabout via Calle d'Alfons el Magnànim. His breath test later showed three times the permitted alcohol limit.
Police said the Spanish driver had been travelling at high speed along Calle San Francisco de Sales when he lost control on entering the roundabout and struck its outer kerb hard.
The damaged car made his attempt to get away harder. One wheel was destroyed, the tyre was torn and the rim bent out of shape.
Officers said the driver showed signs of having drunk alcohol once he stopped. He declined a confirmatory test at a health centre after being told he could request one.
A tow truck removed the car and Palma's Policía Local has passed the case to the Guardia Civil.
