Mallorca driver flees police at five times alcohol limit

A driver fled police through Puerto d'Alcúdia, Mallorca, on Saturday after officers spotted the car travelling the wrong way. Alcúdia Local Police stopped the vehicle after following it through several streets. A breath test recorded 1.16 milligrams of alcohol per litre of exhaled air, nearly five times the general maximum limit.

Officers were driving along Calle Minerva when they saw the vehicle heading against the traffic flow, police said. The driver tried to get away after noticing the patrol car.

Police said they immediately saw signs consistent with alcohol consumption when they spoke to the driver. He is being investigated on suspicion of an offence against road safety for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver did not cooperate during the intervention and refused to sign documents relating to his rights and other paperwork, police said. The refusal was recorded in the case file.
