Palma approves 24-hour animal collection service

Palma is setting up a 24-hour animal collection service for cases across the city, including abandoned, lost and dead animals. On Thursday, 3 September, the city council also approved outside veterinary cover for injured or ill animals found after Son Reus has stopped taking them in. The move is intended to strengthen the protection and welfare of animals housed at the Son Reus Animal Protection Health Centre.

Emergency vet help after Son Reus closes

External vets will provide urgent medical care when an injured or sick animal is collected outside Son Reus intake hours. They will also carry out tests to identify illnesses or other conditions when the municipal centre does not have the equipment or resources needed.

Collection service and treatment supplies

The new collection service will operate throughout Palma, 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. It will also cover cases requiring an intervention.

Palma has separately approved reagents for veterinary diagnostic equipment at Son Reus. The supplies will support the care and treatment of dogs, cats and other animals taken in by the centre for three years, with the option of a fourth year.
