Mallorca antifascist weekend tackles Europe’s far right
Palma, Mallorca, puts Europe’s far right on the agenda on Friday: the fourth Antifascist Weekend opens at La Col·lectiva with a debate on the island and Europe. The event continues on Saturday with a social media workshop and a discussion about possible futures.
MÉS per Palma, MÉS per Mallorca, the Coppieters Foundation and the Darder-Mascaró Foundations have presented the programme. MÉS says the talks and workshops are intended to respond to the rise of the far right in Europe.
Friday’s debate looks beyond Mallorca
The opening discussion begins at 19.00. Its speakers include MEP Vicent Marzà, MÉS general coordinator Lluís Apesteguia and Palma mayoral candidate David Pujol, alongside guests from Sicily and Corsica.
Pujol says he wants Palma to reject hate speech and build democratic alternatives. MÉS per Mallorca’s candidate for the island council, Miquel Oliver, says the event should bring people together to share ideas across borders.
Saturday turns to social media and the future
From 10.00 to 12.00, Àngela Vázquez and Sara Riveiro of Woke Up lead a workshop on antifascism on social media. Aurora Jardhi and philosopher Eudald Espluga then discuss how people might imagine different futures, before a closing vermouth.
Lila Thomàs of the Darder-Mascaró Foundations says the programme is meant to open the debate to everyone.
