Sant Joan de Labritja, Ibiza, has opened grant schemes for asbestos removal and the restoration of traditional heritage within the municipality. The two programmes total €35,000, and applications must be submitted by 9 September.

The Sant Joan de Labritja Town Council has allocated €30,000 to preserve ethnological and architectural features in both rural and urban areas. A further €5,000 is available for removing and properly managing waste from asbestos-containing insulation and construction materials.

Support for traditional heritage

Work on features of the traditional rural landscape can receive €25 per square metre, up to €3,000. Projects involving water-related features and other traditional elements can obtain 25 per cent of the material execution budget, also capped at €3,000.

Asbestos removal funding

The asbestos scheme pays €20 per square metre of asbestos roofing, with a maximum grant of €500 for each beneficiary. Owners, companies and owners' associations may apply for properties containing the material.

Removal work must be carried out by a specialist company registered with the Register of Companies at Risk from Asbestos. The resulting waste must be handled and treated by authorised waste managers.
