Spain asylum law plans approved in Madrid

Spain’s cabinet approved preliminary bills for a new asylum law and changes to the country’s foreigners law in Madrid on Tuesday, 25 August. The measures are intended to bring Spain’s legal framework into line with the European Pact on Migration and Asylum.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration Elma Saiz said the Ministry of the Interior had led work on both draft bills. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska said their shared purpose was to adapt Spanish rules to the European pact, which entered into force in June.
