On Mallorca, police arrest a maintenance technician in Palma over the suspected theft of more than €146,000 from cash machines. Officers detained him on Wednesday while he was working at a bank in the city centre, according to Spain’s National Police. The bank says the money went missing between May 2025 and September 2026.

The bank reported shortages at several of its cash machines. Two at a branch in western Palma were around €10,000 short over three months. An internal inquiry pointed to someone employed by the company that maintained the machines.

Investigators found that the same technician had worked on each machine on the dates when cash went missing. They then checked other machines with substantial shortages and found the same pattern. Security footage showed the man taking notes from the machines’ cash cassettes during maintenance, police said. He hid them in his pockets or toolboxes, finished his work and left the branches. After his arrest, officers took him to a police station.
