Balearic pensions rise to 216,912 in August

The Balearic Islands, Spain, recorded 216,912 contributory pensions in August, up 1.71% on the same month last year. Figures released on Tuesday, 25 August, by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration put the average monthly payment at €1,282.

That average was 4.63% higher than a year earlier, but remained below the national figure of €1,373.44.

Retirement pensions account for the largest share

Retirement pensions made up the largest category, with 146,464 recipients receiving an average of €1,453 a month.

There were also 18,437 permanent incapacity pensions, averaging €1,192 monthly, and 45,800 widows’ and widowers’ pensions, with an average payment of €881.

Orphans’ pensions were paid to 6,093 people at an average of €467 a month. A further 118 people received family-member pensions, averaging €806.

National pension spending rises

Across Spain, Social Security paid €14,470.4 million for contributory pensions in August, 6.2% more than in August 2024. The monthly payment included the pension revaluation approved for 2026, which brought a general increase of 2.7%.

A total of 10,535,869 pensions were paid to more than 9.5 million people, up 1.5% year on year. The average retirement pension nationwide was €1,574.90 a month.
