The fall in sales was far sharper than the drop in prices. Even after the decline, the Balearic average of 4,056 euros per square metre remained well above Spain’s average of 2,114 euros.

Across Spain, home sales dropped 4% in June to 67,529 transactions. The national average price per square metre rose 8.8% from a year earlier, while loans for buying homes edged up 0.2% to 36,249 operations.

New company registrations also fell in the Balearics, down 11.4% to 323 operations in June. Nationally, new businesses rose 2.1% to 11,152 companies.
