Two beach football pitches and a beach volleyball court are now available in Can Pastilla, Mallorca, after a beach football day brought together around 150 people on Saturday, 29 August. UD Collerense organised the opening event with support from Palma’s Municipal Sports Institute (IME). Mayor Jaime Martínez attended the Diada de Fútbol Playa Ciutat de Palma beside Sant Antoni marina, in the former Balneario 0 area.

Palma City Council installed the new facilities this summer. It says the site is the first fixed sports zone at Playa de Palma, adding to the city’s public places for sport.

The project also answers a request from the Balearic Islands Football Federation (FFIB), which wants to support the growth of beach football. Matches on the opening day included female cadet and youth, children’s and amateur categories. Players from the FFIB’s Insuperables league, made up of people with intellectual functional diversity, also took part.
