150 players open Palma’s new beach sports courts
Around 150 players take to the sand in Can Pastilla, Palma, on Saturday 29 August to open new permanent beach football and beach volleyball courts at the former Balneario cero in Playa de Palma.
The sporting day runs from 9.30 to 13.30 and is organised by Palma’s Municipal Sports Institute and UD Collerense. Palma City Council installed the facilities this summer.
Two football pitches and a volleyball court
The new sports area has two beach football pitches and one beach volleyball court. The permanent spaces will be available for outdoor sport.
The non-competitive Diada de Fútbol Playa Ciutat de Palma is intended to introduce the new facilities, encourage beach football and bring together players of different ages and groups.
Youth, amateur and inclusive teams
The programme starts at 9.30 with the female cadet-youth category. At 10.30, players from the Balearic Football Federation’s Insuperables league take part; the league is for athletes with intellectual functional diversity.
Children play at 11.30, followed by amateur players at 12.30. Men’s and women’s Superliga2 volleyball teams will also hold two official training sessions to open the beach volleyball court.
After each match, every participant will receive gifts provided by the Municipal Sports Institute and the Balearic Football Federation. Players will also be given a commemorative shirt in two colours to distinguish the teams.
