Palma beach theft: two arrested after El Molinar chase

Two men aged 19 and 23 were arrested over alleged thefts from beachgoers at Ciudad Jardín and El Molinar in Palma, Mallorca, on 24 August. One was caught a few metres away after running from officers near the El Molinar seafront. Police recovered two mobile phones, a watch, three pairs of headphones and jewellery from the suspect.

Palma Local Police said people alerted a Community Police officer in the coastal district at about 10.20am after seeing a man going through beachgoers’ bags, rucksacks and belongings. He ran along El Molinar’s seafront when challenged.

Officers later found two young men matching witnesses’ descriptions outside number 111 on Vicari Joaquim Fuster street. One ran again when he saw the police, but an officer caught him on foot shortly afterwards.

A witness told police that the fleeing suspect threw a mobile phone beneath a parked vehicle during the chase. Officers recovered it.

Both men were taken to Palma Local Police station before being handed to the National Police.
