Palma beach thefts: tourist collapses, police arrest two

A tourist collapsed on Can Pere Antoni beach in Palma after restraining a man suspected of attacking him during an attempted theft. National Police arrested that man and a second suspect over separate incidents on the beach last weekend. The first case unfolded early on Saturday and the second early on Sunday.

Tourist taken to hospital after alleged attack

Police were called after reports that a tourist was being robbed on the beach. Officers found the visitor holding a young man after three men had allegedly approached him while he was lying on the sand and tried to take his trainers and glasses.

A witness stepped in to help and called the police. Two of the alleged attackers ran away, while the third allegedly punched the tourist before he was restrained. The visitor collapsed as police made the arrest and was taken to hospital. Officers are investigating the suspect on suspicion of violent robbery.

Blue rucksack leads to second arrest

Early on Sunday, a plain-clothes patrol spotted another man paying close attention to people on the sand. Police said he picked up a blue rucksack from the beach and walked towards Avenida Joan Maragall.

Officers stopped him and said the bag belonged to another beachgoer. It contained the victim's documents and mobile phone. The man was arrested on suspicion of theft.
