Mallorca's Beata procession: Virgin image at Cort

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Palma, Mallorca: the city council puts an image of the Virgin Mary at Cort town hall’s main door on Saturday, 17 October, for the Beata procession. It will stay on display until 21:00, the council said on Friday. A commemorative canvas by Biel Carrió will return to the facade for the Carro Triunfal de la Beata 2026 celebration.

Mallorca Island Council and the bishopric, which organise the celebration, provided Carrió’s canvas in 2023. The city has kept it at Cort since then.

Can Balaguer in Palma is also marking the occasion. Since Tuesday, it has displayed two made-to-measure damask hangings bearing a portrait of Saint Catalina Tomàs. Nuns from Santa Magdalena made them for the celebration, and they will remain on show until Sunday. Cort’s facade will carry a second canvas for the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed on 17 October.
