Mallorca: PP and Vox block Bestard car-use probe
In Palma, Mallorca, PP and Vox block a bid to examine Pedro Bestard’s use of three official cars on 6 October 2026. Bestard is the second vice-president of the Mallorca Island Council. The proposal sought a check on whether his use of the cars was lawful and whether public money may have been misused.
Bid to check car use fails
The Socialists (PSIB) wanted the Balearic Audit Office, the Sindicatura de Cuentas de Baleares, to produce a priority report. It would have drawn on a report from the technical secretariat of the island council’s Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports Department. The request raised the possibility of misuse; it did not establish that wrongdoing had taken place.
In the Balearic Parliament’s Finance and Budget Committee, seven members of PP and Vox voted against the request. Five from PSIB and Més per Menorca backed it, while MÉS per Mallorca abstained, according to parliament.
Parliament backs call for sport tax relief
A separate proposal from Vox passed with seven votes from Vox and PP. It asks the Balearic government to let residents deduct part of their spending on sport from income tax. Gym memberships, sports clubs and federations, guided exercise classes and personal training are among the costs it names. PSIB, Més per Menorca and MÉS per Mallorca voted against.
The proposal also calls for incentives to help children and young people take up sport, and for extra support to help families with children, people over 65 and people with disabilities access it. The vote does not introduce a tax deduction: it asks the government to create one.
