Bicipalma records 1.4 million rides in Palma
Bicipalma added more than 10,000 users in Palma, Mallorca, in 2025, taking its total to 42,500, while journeys rose by almost 300,000 to 1.4 million. The municipal bike-hire service averaged nearly 4,000 trips a day in its strongest year to date.
Palma City Council mobility councillor Toni Deudero said on 25 August that the service is expected to exceed those figures in 2026. He cited the decision to open Bicipalma to people living outside Palma among the reasons for the increase.
User base and bicycle redistribution
Mallorca residents account for 80.8% of Bicipalma users. Foreign nationals make up 1.6%, or 821 users, while 5,072 users are Spaniards from outside the Balearic Islands.
Deudero also attributed growth to the redistribution operation that moves bicycles between stations where they are needed. Previously carried out in the morning and afternoon, the service has included a night shift since 1 January to improve early-day availability.
University campus links drive journeys
Bicipalma began serving the Universitat de les Illes Balears in May 2025, a move Deudero described as significant. More than 1,200 daily journeys were recorded there between October and May.
The campus has six Bicipalma stations. Some 54% of hires were trips to other points on campus, with the remainder travelling between Palma and the university. Deudero expects further growth in 2026 as the council adds staff, stations and bicycles alongside the expanded redistribution service.
