Boat fire off Palma: five rescued off Portitxol

A boat catches fire off Portitxol in Palma on Friday, with five people aboard. The vessel’s owning company rescues all five. The fire starts shortly before 17.00, according to Spain’s maritime rescue service, Salvamento Marítimo.
The cause is not yet known. Salvamento Marítimo sends two boats to the scene and, because of the scale of the flames, supervises the vessel’s sinking to ensure it happens safely.
The remains are due to be removed shortly. For now, they pose no danger to other boats because of the depth of the water, Salvamento Marítimo says.
