Boat theft in Sóller: 52-year-old arrested after sea pursuit
Spain's Guardia Civil arrested a 52-year-old man on Sunday, 24 August, after a charter boat worth more than €1 million was allegedly stolen from the Port of Sóller, Mallorca. Officers intercepted the vessel near Tagomago, close to Eivissa, following a pursuit by sea and air.
Emergency service 112 alerted police to the reported theft on Sunday morning. The charter company that owns the boat helped officers establish its position; a man and a woman were on board.
The Guardia Civil deployed an aircraft from its Air Service and two vessels from the Provincial Maritime Service. After locating the boat, officers repeatedly ordered its skipper to stop the engines, but he initially did not comply.
The force said the man attempted to ram its boats during the pursuit, which lasted about half an hour. He later stopped resisting, allowing officers to intercept the vessel.
The detainee, who is from Eastern Europe, is under investigation on suspicion of boat theft, assaulting an officer and disobedience.
