Palma police clear Born terraces for outdoor dinner

Terrace tables and chairs on Palma’s Paseo del Born are due to be removed on Wednesday afternoon before an outdoor supper organised by the Brunzzit collective. Palma City Council says the order comes from the National Police, not from the city’s governing team. The Balearic Islands Government Delegation has authorised the public event.

Police have called for all non-fixed furniture belonging to Born hospitality businesses to be taken away. They say the move is needed to protect safety, avoid public-order trouble and prevent possible vandalism or disturbances.

Police point to July clashes

The National Police’s Provincial Information Brigade based its warning on events after the 26 July protest against tourist overcrowding organised by Menys Turisme, Més Vida. According to the police document, clashes, insults and tension broke out in areas occupied by terrace seating on the Born, and customers left quickly for safety reasons.

Police also cite Brunzzit’s stated aim of reclaiming public space. They believe this could raise the risk of coercion, sabotage or direct confrontations involving hospitality venues along the route.

Brunzzit plans a walk with families

Brunzzit has held weekly sopars a la fresca — outdoor suppers — at landmark sites across Palma for the past two summers. For its final event of 2026, the group has asked people to join a walk along the Born with grandparents and other relatives.

The organisers say they do not initially plan to put out their own tables or chairs, instead using the Born’s benches. Brunzzit says 130 square metres of the promenade are used for tables and chairs aimed at customers able to pay prices beyond the reach of many Mallorca workers.
