Rents in Calvià, Mallorca, now hover around €1,450, up from nearly €900 in 2023, according to the Socialist Party (PSIB). In a statement issued on 22 October 2026, the party accuses the town’s People’s Party (PP) and Vox administration of failing to tackle the housing problem. It also raised the criticism at a council meeting reviewing the administration’s record.

PSIB spokeswoman Nati Francés says young people struggle to afford a home of their own, while working families find it hard to make ends meet. She says more people are being forced to leave Calvià.

Healthcare and day centre still unavailable

The party says planned basic healthcare units in Peguera and Son Ferrer have yet to open. It also points to the day centre in Palmanova, which it says remains closed despite being built by the previous administration more than three years ago.

Beach services and worker protests

Francés says beach services and accessibility measures arrived later than ever this year. The PSIB also cites demonstrations by local police officers and council employees, a lifeguards’ strike and protests joined by Civil Protection volunteers this week.

Alfonso Rodríguez, the PSIB’s candidate for Calvià’s 2027 local election, says the town needs a change of direction. The council administration’s response to the allegations is not included in the party’s statement.
