Ibiza A&E: patients wait over 12 hours at Can Misses

Some patients at Hospital Can Misses in Eivissa, Ibiza, are waiting more than 12 hours in A&E, the nurses’ union Satse says. On 27 August, the union said the delays were hitting patients as well as nursing staff. It accused health minister Manuela García of playing down what it calls extreme pressure in the department.

Satse says it has continued to receive complaints from nurses about delayed care and other incidents. The union links these problems to serious organisational failings that have built up in the service.

García and Satse agree that the number of patients treated is similar to other years. But nurses say patients have never previously faced waits this long, describing the situation as a severe structural problem that has become chronic.

The union also says García has not met the nurses or sought a first-hand view of the overload they say they have endured for months. Satse has called on her to visit the A&E department, meet the nurses alone and apologise to those affected in Ibiza and Formentera.
