Can Pesquet in Son Sardina: MÉS seeks answers over private sale

MÉS per Palma has accused Palma mayor Jaime Martínez of failing to secure the Can Pesquet plot in Son Sardina, Palma, for public facilities after the site passed into private ownership. On 24 August 2026, the party called on him to explain what happened and to ensure the neighbourhood receives the facilities previously announced.

Martínez said during a visit to Son Sardina on 13 August 2025 that Palma City Council had begun the process of acquiring the plot. The proposed development included a square, parking and a neighbourhood community centre.

MÉS councillor Miquel Àngel Contreras said the mayor had raised expectations among residents without delivering on the plan. He said the requested facilities were spaces for community life rather than special concessions, and described the community centre as a necessary neighbourhood demand.

MÉS cites planning protection

The party said the general urban development plan promoted in the previous legislative term had allowed sites such as Can Pesquet to be reserved for public facilities through purchase or compulsory acquisition.

According to MÉS, this meant privately owned land could still be designated for future public use. It said the protection was removed after the People’s Party took control of Cort, leaving several plots intended for neighbourhood facilities without safeguards.

Contreras compared the case with the former Iris cinema, saying both involved public purchase announcements followed by private acquisition.
