Mallorca: more than 4,200 people have signed up for a cancer charity run and walk in Palma on 25 October. The Spanish Association Against Cancer is organising the event, with every route starting and finishing on Avenida Antoni Maura. Its Balearic president, José Reyes, says the figure covers the eight-kilometre race and the walk combined.

Eight kilometres through Palma

The race starts at 09.30 and follows two laps through the city centre on a route closed to traffic. The top three men and top three women will each receive a commemorative trophy.

Children's races and a four-kilometre walk

Children aged three to 14 can enter races with distances suited to their age, starting at 10.40. Each child taking part will receive a T-shirt, medal and wristband. A non-competitive four-kilometre walk, open to anyone, starts at 11.30.

Entries for the races and walk are open on the Elitechip website. The association aims to raise money for cancer research and support people with cancer and their families.
