Palma car break-ins: police arrest 26-year-old

A parked car with a smashed triangular front-door window and a Peugeot van with its rear door open were found after suspected break-ins in Palma, Mallorca. Palma Local Police arrested a 26-year-old Spanish man near Plaza del Progrés. The arrest followed a call at about 01.25 on 26 August reporting a man handling a car in Calle Rossinyol.

Neighbours gave officers a description, and an Immediate Intervention Unit patrol stopped the suspect a few metres away in Plaza del Progrés.

Police said they found cash, bags, cases containing professional tools and a carbide drill bit during a search. Officers believe the bit may have been used to break car windows.

A search of the area found that the car’s triangular front-door window had been broken, allowing someone to search inside. In Calle Despuig, officers found the Peugeot van with its rear door open and signs of a similar forced entry.

Police arrested the man after linking items found on him to the two vehicles. He and the case files were then handed to the Policía Nacional.
