Caracas flights restart after quakes

Flights to and from Caracas are restarting after June earthquakes disrupted services in Venezuela. Air Europa resumes its Madrid-Caracas route on Tuesday, while Iberia returns on Thursday. Both airlines will again use Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Caracas.

During July and August, Air Europa and Iberia operated through Arturo Michelena International Airport in Valencia instead. Air Europa said it was pleased to reconnect Caracas with its regular network.

Iberia will begin with three flights a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.

A route hit by repeated changes

Air links with Venezuela have shifted repeatedly since late 2025. The Venezuelan government suspended the operating licences of Air Europa, Plus Ultra and Iberia after the airlines stopped flying there following a United States warning urging aircraft overflying the country to exercise extra caution.

Air Europa resumed flights in mid-February, followed by Plus Ultra on 3 March. Iberia announced its return in April, but the June earthquakes forced another change to operations in Caracas. The two airlines are now moving back towards their usual schedules.
