Mallorca caravan fire: man held after blaze spreads
On Mallorca, a caravan catches fire in the Son Hugo car park in Palma shortly before 13.00 on Wednesday. Flames spread to at least two other vehicles, but no one is hurt. Spain’s National Police arrest a man in his 30s late that afternoon in connection with the fire.
Police say a butane gas cylinder was the source of the fire. Witnesses told officers they had seen people at the site shortly before the flames began. A police investigation team identified the suspect, and officers are still working to establish what happened.
Palma City Council has ordered the immediate removal of butane cylinders and other flammable material from outside. Municipal social services have offered help to everyone affected. Four people have asked for accommodation.
