Mallorca caravan fire destroys three, sparks eviction fears

Three caravans have been destroyed by fire in Son Hugo, Palma, Mallorca: MÉS per Palma fears the city could use the blaze to clear the entire settlement. In a statement on 15 October, the party urges the People’s Party-led council to protect those affected and not remove anyone without somewhere else to live. It is warning about a possible eviction, not reporting one.

Party spokeswoman Neus Truyol points to the eviction of the former Palma prison. She says people were forced out without being offered a place to live, and fears the same could happen at Son Hugo.

People live in caravans there because they cannot afford a home in Palma, MÉS says. The party wants more public housing and affordable alternatives, and says it will watch closely what the council does after the fire.
