Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

A 67-year-old Spanish cyclist is stabilised after suffering a cardiac arrest on Carretera del Pinar in Alcúdia, Mallorca, on the afternoon of 29 August. A Guardia Civil patrol on a routine crime-prevention round finds him on the ground beside a bus stopped in the middle of the road, with no pulse and not breathing. Officers secure the area and begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), taking turns while medical staff make their way to the scene.

When medical staff arrive, they continue the resuscitation with the officers’ help. They use a defibrillator and a CPR mask, and stabilise the cyclist after nearly an hour of treatment.
