Mallorca carer investigated over €1,200 in Artà
A 61-year-old British carer is under investigation in Artà, Mallorca, after two €600 cash withdrawals were found on the account of an 87-year-old German woman she cared for. A relative found the transactions, dated 19 and 20 July, while checking the dead woman’s bank movements. The Guardia Civil is investigating whether the carer withdrew and kept the €1,200.
On 19 July, the carer found the woman dead in her bed when she went to see her. The woman had lived alone, and Guardia Civil officers in Artà opened inquiries into her death.
Card was left at the home
The bank card used for the withdrawals was in a wallet at the woman’s home, according to the person who made the complaint. The carer had regularly used the card when the woman asked her to buy things or run errands, and therefore knew its PIN.
The relative also said the carer had a copy of the home’s keys and still had it after the woman’s death. Officers say this gave her access to the bank card.
The Guardia Civil is treating the carer as a suspected perpetrator of misappropriation and fraud.
