Palma: carriage driver faces licence call after attack
A German woman who asked to give water to an exhausted-looking horse at a horse-drawn carriage stop in Calle Conquistador, Palma, was allegedly abused and had water thrown in her face on Friday. The driver is also president of the La Calesa de Palma association, according to Progreso en Verde. Palma City Hall says it will open proceedings against him.
The woman’s footage, shared on social media, shows a second carriage driver who did not intervene, the party said. Progreso en Verde alleges the first driver insulted the woman because she was female and repeatedly called her a “Nazi”.
Party seeks licence withdrawal
Progreso en Verde wants the driver’s licence withdrawn and says it will take the case to the public prosecutor. It describes the alleged incident as assault, harassment and a hate crime.
Its president, Guillermo Amengual, said women had made many complaints about being confronted when they criticised the condition of horses pulling the carriages. He called Friday’s incident unacceptable.
The party also wants a sanction for the second driver, saying he failed to step in to stop what happened. Palma City Hall has not said whether its proceedings could affect the first driver’s licence.
