Catalan courses for Balearic public employees

The Balearic Government announced in Palma on 20 August that it will provide more than 1,000 places on Catalan language courses and workshops for public employees in the Balearic Islands. The 2026 programme covers B2, C1 and C2 levels, as well as administrative language training.

Classes will start in late September and finish in February, with assessments scheduled for March 2027. Registration closed on 14 July, and the Balearic School of Public Administration will publish lists of accepted and excluded applicants, along with waiting lists, in the coming weeks.

Online teaching and blended-learning trial

B2, C1, C2 and administrative-language courses will continue to be delivered online in 2026. A trial of five blended-learning courses is also planned, with three in Mallorca, one in Menorca and one in Eivissa.

The in-person elements are intended to strengthen oral expression, interaction and written expression. The department said these are the areas in which candidates who do not pass the assessments most often fail to reach the required minimum score.

Who can take part

Eligible participants include active public employees of the Autonomous Community administration, including staff from the Health Service and teaching bodies. Staff at public-sector bodies, statutory institutions with agreements with the Balearic School of Public Administration, and administrative services at the Universitat de les Illes Balears may also join.

The programme is also available to active employees of other administrations and dependent bodies in the Balearic Islands. The Balearic School of Public Administration will deliver the training and assess candidates, while the plan's implementation budget is €117,850; the Department of Labour, Public Function and Social Dialogue has highlighted a €120,000 budget for the initiative.
