€62,890 cash seizure at Palma Airport

Spain’s Guardia Civil and the Spanish Tax Agency said they had seized €62,890 from the checked luggage of two Spanish travellers at Palma Airport in Palma on 20 August 2026. The pair had arrived from the Dominican Republic via Madrid and were stopped as they sought to leave the terminal quickly.

After collecting their bags, the travellers told officers they had nothing to declare. Their nervous and evasive manner led Guardia Civil officers and Customs staff to take them to Customs facilities for further checks.

An X-ray examination found banknotes in several denominations concealed among personal belongings. Investigators confiscated the money and filed a complaint alleging breaches of rules on anti-money-laundering measures and the movement of means of payment.
