Palma cathedral steps: cracks prompt full inspection

Cracks in the steps of Mallorca Cathedral in Palma, Mallorca, prompt a wider check: the city plans to examine the whole stairway area, not just the damaged spots. City spokesperson Mercedes Celeste announced the plan on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
Technicians had told the Historic Centre Commission that the structure was in poor condition. Celeste said it had gone without the necessary maintenance for 30 years. The city will study the whole structure before deciding what work is needed to keep it in good condition for several more years.
