Palma, Mallorca: Artificial intelligence takes centre stage as the Alberta Giménez Higher Education Centre (Cesag) opens its 52nd academic year on Friday, 16 October 2026. Students receive diplomas for the best academic records in each degree course last year, while the centre also rewards the best final-degree projects.

Director María Elena Valiente begins by recalling the centre’s educational and religious roots. She says a university must ask important questions and prepare students to face problems that have no clear answer. Education and Universities Minister Antoni Vera calls Cesag an important institution for society.

Pablo Frías, vice-rector of Pontifical Comillas University, to which Cesag is affiliated, identifies AI as a challenge for higher education. “Technology is never neutral,” he says, urging people to “remain deeply human”. Professor Jaime Vázquez closes the ceremony with a speech on AI’s impact on academic life and the benefits it can bring when used to serve people.
