PP bids to block Ceuta child transfers

Mallorca’s PP will table a motion on 2 September opposing the transfer of unaccompanied migrant children from Ceuta to the island. The party is also demanding an immediate response from Spain’s government to what it calls growing migration pressure on Mallorca. It wants tighter border controls, action against people-smuggling networks and Frontex, the European Union border agency, deployed along the Balearic coast.

The PP says 401 boats carrying 7,321 migrants reached the Balearics in 2025. It puts the total from 1 January 2025 to 24 July 2026 at 11,055 arrivals in 606 boats.

Call for coastal patrols

The party wants particular attention paid to the route from Algeria and more resources to tackle trafficking networks. It also calls for legal return and family-reunification procedures to be developed with countries of origin.

The Consell de Mallorca had already called for Frontex to be deployed on the Balearic coast in February 2025, the PP says, but that request has not been carried out.

Pressure on Mallorca’s care system

The motion rejects distributing unaccompanied children who arrived in Ceuta among Spain’s other regions, including the Balearics. The PP says Mallorca’s own reception services are already under exceptional pressure.

Magdalena García, an island councillor and vice-president of IMAS, said places, resources and specialist staff were not unlimited. Protecting a child meant more than moving them elsewhere, she said: their circumstances must be assessed, their family traced and reunification pursued where legally possible.
