Ceuta rallies on 2 September as PP demands end to bans

Town halls across Spain are due to hold Ceuta support rallies on Wednesday, 2 September. The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has called the gatherings for Ceuta Day. The Partido Popular says government delegations must stop banning rallies in some areas.

The party says the events are not aimed at anyone, but are meant to back Spanish sovereignty and a return to normality in Spanish territory. Spain’s Socialist Party, the PSOE, has refused to take part, calling the initiative party-political.

PP attacks PSOE refusal

PP secretary-general Miguel Tellado has urged people to join the rallies and accused the PSOE of trying to derail them. He says they are solely about defending Spain’s territorial integrity and showing support for people in Ceuta.

PP spokesman Borja Sémper has also called on the PSOE to reverse its decision. He says many PSOE mayors still plan to call the demonstrations.

Ceuta president issues appeal

PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo shared a letter on X from Ceuta president Juan Jesús Vivas, urging people across Spain to attend. Vivas says the city has suffered after more than 70,000 irregular migrants entered at the end of July.

He argues that Ceuta’s case concerns all of Spain and says the country’s territorial integrity cannot be divided. His message ends with a blunt appeal: Ceuta is not for sale and must be defended.
